On the morning of March 9th, 2020, Fan Di''''an, Dean of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and Su Xinping, Deputy Dean, continued to observe online courses, starting this week''''s inspection of online teaching. In this round of lecture observation, Dean Fan Dian specially selected some of the courses taught by professors, including “Creation” by Professor Liu Xiaodong from the Department of Oil Painting, “Model and Sand Table” by Professor Feng Mengbo from the Department of Printmaking, “Beijing Art + Technology Biennale” by Professor Fei Jun and Professor Chen Xiaowen from the School of Design, and “Theme and Narration of Images” by Professor Wang Chuan from the School of Design. Meanwhile, he also observed the lecture courses of two young teachers, namely the “ Study of Realistic Sculptural Forms and Materials ” by Liu Qing from the Department of Sculpture and the "Architectural Design" course by Luo Jing from the School of Architecture.
Fan Di''''an emphasized that classroom is the front line for the Academy to fight against the epidemic. Since the beginning of online teaching, a group of well-known art professors have conducted online classes and fully demonstrated their excellent academic talents and enriched teaching experience in their teaching, greatly inspiring the students with unique teaching effect. This shows the inheritance of the excellent tradition of the Central Academy of Fine Arts today, embodying the noble professionalism of these famous art professors.
After observing the lecture courses of the day, Fan Di''''an commented on the courses taught by several professors and teachers. He said that Professor Liu Xiaodong has gone deep in the class of Creation. As a famous artist, when supervising students’ creative works for graduation, he inspired students'''' ideas and methods from the perspective of contemporary development of art and pointed out that realistic painting is a force of contemporary art. It needs to possess new quality. And “what to draw” should not be limited within any frame, Art professionals could draw more things that others don''''t care to draw, lower the threshold for subject selection, improve the technique level, focus on solving the problem of how to draw, and draw at excellent level. In today''''s class, students introduced their works of creation in the previous period, which shows that they have grasped the creative vision of life and realistic feelings, reflecting a clear directness and vividness. Professor Liu Xiaodong also pays much attention to students'''' thoughts and mentality in the process of teaching, hoping that students would step out of “ego”, face life, and get in touch with the most ordinary people in life. These all reflect the spirit of caring and concern for students. Professor Feng Mengbo very seriously arranged the online podium as a live "performance" site, demonstrating the sacredness of teaching. In the course “Modeling and Sand Table Making”, he fully displayed his collections and creative works, greatly inspiring the students. Professor Fei Jun and Professor Chen Xiaowen led some young teachers to “joint lecture” and guided the creation with the theme of “Sustenance”. Their teaching process was formulated with preciseness and the comments given to the project schemes submitted by students were also very strict. Professor Chen Xiaowen is far away in the eastern United States and he persisted in offering classes regardless of the time difference. This kind of arrangement where both Chinese and foreign professors teach online at the same time is seen as a rare teaching scene. Professor Wang Chuan made full preparations for the course during the holidays, and collected and arranged a tremendously large amount of image materials. He gave comments on the students'''' enthusiasm for learning and the amount of assignments completed, saying they are performing better than usual, which fully reflects the “extraordinary” effect of online teaching. In addition, while observing the courses delivered by Professor Liu Qing from the Department of Sculpture and Luo Jing from the School of Architecture, the Dean also was deeply impressed by the torch-passing teaching style displayed in the young teachers of our Academy. Liu Qing''''s analysis of students'''' sculpture works was thorough. Luo Jing’s presentation of the theme “community” and his analysis of the students’ project schemes showed realistic connotation. All these embody young professors’ rigorous attitude towards online teaching and their grasp of the quality of teaching.

Fan Di''''an pointed out that, in the extraordinary times, extraordinary methods are used and extraordinary online teaching must strive for extraordinary teaching results. As Professor Liu Xiaodong said that he would expect students to produce good assignment works and good art works. The word “expectation” is the exact joint wish of all teachers and students of Central Academy of Fine Arts: expecting an overall victory in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and expecting excellent results in network teaching throughout the Academy.
In the online teaching observation room, Fan Di''''an paid tribute to teachers and students who have been persisting in their teaching posts and online teaching, and extended greetings to the foreign students from South Korea, Algeria and other countries. He hoped that they could overcome difficulties, persist in taking classes and getting good grades.
