Details and Greatness
As written in Zhongyong, or the Doctrine of the Mean, “Scholars honor their virtuous nature and value knowledge. They seek to explore knowledge to its breadth and greatness, while down to the last detail. They dream big and pursue the course of the Mean. They review old knowledge and continually acquire the new. They are honest and generous, and respect etiquette.” In the early days of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Mr. XU Beihong, the then president of CAFA and famous painter, chose “Details and Greatness” from Zhongyong to guide sketch Education and painting.
